This piece is inspired by Savalou E

It’s a research work by Rachel Beauvoir-Dominique and Didier Dominique, completed in 1986. This remarkable piece was compiled into a book that won the “Casa de las Américas” prize in Cuba in 1989.

From what I understand, it explores the role Vodou plays in the daily lives of Haitian peasants, how deeply it is connected to their beliefs, practices, and the way community life functions in rural areas. It especially highlights the persecution that Vodou practitioners in the countryside faced at the time the research was being done, along with their testimonies about how Vodou helps them endure and adapt to the hardships of everyday life. It’s a book that makes me feel like I’m in a lake in Haiti.

The artwork reflects his spirit through rich tones and textures that speak of the earth, history, and the quiet power of ancestry.

Printed as a giclée on fine art paper with archival inks, ensuring every color and detail endures with depth and clarity over time.
