I will never forget August 14, 2021, the eve of Patronal Festival of Cap-Haïtien festival.
My friend Laïka and I were running errands, when we saw this beautiful lady on the corner of Ri 18 E, talking with a motorcycle driver.
Even though my camera was in my bag, I didn’t have time to take it out and ask her for a photo since we were in such a rush. The way she was dressed, especially with that small dagger at her side that had a blue stone in it, and the proud way she stood in the street, it was the first time I had ever seen a scene like that.
I tried to pay tribute to that moment through this drawing, but it doesn’t even come close to her essence. It would have been one of my favorite photos of all time.
But oh well, it’s just me and my little paintbrush, I’ve made our peace with that.”
