If you’ve ever been to Lakou Soukri, you would know that Manbo Inan is the mother of 101 children.
She is celebrated in Lakou Soukri, located in Soukri Danache, on the outskirts of Gonaïves. Lakou Soukri is a Kongo lakou, the home of all the Kongo Law, such as Bazou Mennen or Wa Wongòl, Lawoka, Manbo Inan, Simbi Ganga, Jatibwa, Lenba, Zinga, Grann, and others. These are just the main ones.
Manbo Inan has her basin placed in a river that flows through the lakou.
She is known to appear in the form of a serpent, and there is even a song that says:
“Dagwe Dagwe Koulèv o, se mwen Manbo Inan koulèv o” (“Dagwe Dagwe Serpent, it is I, Manbo Inan the serpent”).
Her colors are light blue and white.
Like all mothers, she is a lwa who can be both gentle and strict.
She heals her children through her knowledge of plants, and in the Haitian Vodou religion, all her children are bòkò and herbal doctors. But she is ruthless toward the enemies of her children.
Lakou Soukri celebrates August 15, which is the feast day of Manbo Inan and all the others. In syncretism, she is represented by Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours.
Printed as a museum-quality giclée on fine art paper with archival inks, it ensures exceptional depth, texture, and longevity, preserving the vivid spirit and symbolism of this sacred pair.
